Students from Kochi to Participate in Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) Exam

Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF), the biggest organizer of Olympiads for school students in the world, has launched two new Olympiad exams globally. While the International Sports Knowledge Olympiad (ISKO) will be held in association with Star Sports, the International Company Secretaries Olympiad (ICSO) will be organised in association with the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Govt. of India.
Around 20,000 students have registered for the Olympiad (2015-2016) from Kochi. Some of the regular participants from kochi include Navy Children School, Vimalagiri International School, Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Global Public School, Kendriya Vidyalaya etc.
The ISKO will include Sports and General Knowledge questions and students from classes I to X can appear for the ISKO. Awards/scholarships worth around Rs.2.25 crore will be provided to winners/ participants. In addition, for the first time, select state topper students will be invited to appear on a special program on the Star Sports channel.
Meanwhile, the ICSO for students of classes 11 & 12, is designed to assist studentsb realize their aptitude and potential for the Company Secretary’s profession. Students from all streams – Science, Commerce and Humanities – can appear for the ICSO. The international topper from each class will be awarded a cash scholarship of Rs one lakh each.
Over Rs 50 lakh will be awarded to winners of ICSO. SOF is already partnering the British Council for the International English Olympiad.
Mahabir Singh, the founder and Executive Director, said that for the current year, students and schools would be recognized and felicitated with awards and scholarships worth over Rs. 14 crore. He added that registrations for the current year are open and registration forms have been sent to schools.
According to ICSI President, Mamta Binani, the ICS Olympiad is being conducted to help the students evaluate themselves at school/city/state/national levels and decide on their professional career at an early stage. It will also help students understand how competent they are among their peers.
SOF has been organizing Olympiad exams since the past over 20 years. For the year 2015-16, over 34000 schools in 1400 cities in India and 22 countries across the world registered for the Olympiads and millions of students appeared in four exams, namely SOF – National Cyber Olympiad, SOF – National Science Olympiad, SOF – International Mathematics Olympiad, and SOF – International English Olympiad
In addition to organizing Olympiads, SOF also runs a scholarship scheme – The Girl Child Scholarship Scheme (GCSS) under which each year 300 academically inclined girl students from financially underprivileged families are provided an annual scholarship to assist them pursue school education. SOF also provides books and study material to needy students.
