He was delivering the inaugural address at the three day International symposium on Ocean Technology (SYMPOL-2019) organized by the Department of Electronics of the Cochin University of Science and Technology and Center for Ocean Electronics, sponsored by the Naval Research Board, University Grants Commission, Science and Engineering Research Board, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Council for Scientific & Industrial Research and IEEE Kerala section.
“Although applying electronics in the ocean is not at all an easy task, the hard work and deep research made it easier and our ocean-bound electronics is globally appreciated”, he added. “Youngsters in this field are very enthusiastic and creative. A big market is waiting for the ocean-bound electronic equipments. Institutions like CUSAT can contribute a lot in this area”, he reminded.
Vice-Chancellor Dr K. N. Madhusoodanan presided over the meeting. Prof. P.R.S. Pillai, Chairman, SYMPOL-2019, Prof. James Kurian, Head, Dept. of Electronics, Shobha Verma, Member Secretary, Naval Research Board, New Delhi and Dr. Supriya M.H., Co- ordinator, SYMPOL-2019 spoke at the function. Dr. Gopu R. Potty, Professor, University of Rhode Island, USA delivered the keynote address on the topic ‘Effects of climatic change on underwater accoustics’.
The symposium attended by more than 80 participants from various institutions will discuss their innovative ideas and findings regarding ocean electronics. The conference will conclude on 13 th .
