“The anti-democratic position of the judiciary is justifiable if it is taken for protecting the individual freedom of the citizen’’, said Dr. V.R Jayadevan, Principal, Law College, Kozhikkode.
He was delivering a lecture on ‘Judicial Review in India: Analysis of Ideological, Political and Constitutional
Dimensions’, at the School of Legal Studies, Cochin University. “The Constitution of India and other laws uphold the judicial system only as long as it does not touch the powers of the rulers”, he added.
CUSAT Vice Chancellor Dr. K.N. Madhusoodanan inaugurated the function which was presided over by Dr. P.S Seema, Associate Professor. Jean Vinitha Peter and Arathi Ashok, Assistant Professors of Legal Studies spoke. Dr. P. Leelakrishnan, Former Director of Legal Studies, M.C Valson, Professor, NUALS were the moderators.
