THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH) has planned a three-day event from December 2 in the city to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, packed with awareness sessions and cultural programmes.
The programme, ‘Swastik’, will be inaugurated by Thiruvananthapuram Mayor K Sreekumar at Mahatma Ayyankali Hall at 11 am on December 2. Besides awareness sessions on rights and opportunities of persons with disabilities, cultural events, Sign Language corner, live caricature drawing, open mike performances and stage shows have been planned as part of the festival.
International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed on December 3 to increase awareness, understanding and acceptance of persons with disabilities and celebrate their achievements and contributions. Corporation Councillors Sivadath and Ayisha Baker and Assistant Director of Social Justice Department Jalaja S will attend the inaugural function.
Dr K G Satheesh Kumar, Director CATI, NISH, will welcome the gathering and aisy Sebastian, Coordinator, Academic and Intervention Programme, NISH, will propose a vote of thanks.
