KOCHI:
Kochi City Police signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BpCL) for the setting up of a Cyber Dome for fighting against cyber crimes at a function held at Kochi today.
George Thomas, General Manager (PR & Administration), BPCL and PN Ramesh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police signed the MoU in the presence of Vijay Sakhare, IGP & Commissioner of Police, Kochi City and Prasad K Panicker, Executive Director, BPCL Kochi Refinery.
BPCL would be extending financial assistance of Rs 99.77 Lakhs for the initiative. The project is to set up a Cyber Dome, with Open Source, Social Media and lnternet Monitoring Lab at Kochi, under Ernakulam range which is inclusive of the rural’areas to analyse social media and internet, identify trends and sentiments, anticipate events, identify key instruments, and identify fake profile& linkages between multiple handlers.
This will be used to create awareness among public, school children and take requisite preventive action. All these functions could ensure greater cyber security for the common people at large especially womeh and children and prevent cyber criminals from abusing the power of internet.
The project will also help in education, creating awareness about underlying threats, precautions, research and development and this will contribute in prevention in cyber crimes. The system also has a grid for citizens to give various information and based on this the police can act and will ultimately help the citizens and more specifically women and children.
“Policing in the cyber domain has become very critical in ensuring law and order. The Cyber dome would help us to set in place the best cyber monitoring system in our area,” said Vijay Sakhare IPS-‘BPCL gives prime importance to security and safety. Cyber Dome is another step to enhance the security of our district and beyond,” said Prasad K Panicker.
