As part of the World Wetlands Day, a Mangrove Plantation drive was conducted at the Mangrove Park in Ernakulam. Over 20 employees from Apollo Tyres and 80 NSS volunteers from S.N.M. College Maliankara jointly planted mangroves, and are aiming to achieve a target of 500 saplings by March 2025. This day honours the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, established in 1971 to promote conservation and sustainable use. In line with its commitment to biodiversity, the drive helped to raise awareness about the crucial role of wetlands, particularly mangroves, in maintaining ecological balance.
In addition to this hands-on initiative, an awareness workshop for 200 students at The Cochin College was also hosted as part of the event. The plantation drive and awareness workshop were hosted in collaboration with Apollo Tyres and featured an esteemed lineup of key figures and speakers. Sonali Sen, Independent Director of Premier Tyres Ltd, praised the vital mangrove conservation efforts, for fostering sustainability and also essential for the vulnerable otter’s habitat. Unit Head for Kerala at Apollo Tyres George Oommen, Head of Sustainability & CSR Rinika Grover, board members from MatsyaFed and other distinguished dignitaries also attended the event.
