KOCHI:
Kerala Start-up Mission and the Alumni Association of Rajagiri School of Engineering & Technology join hands to develop a shortcut for all hard working patent application aspirants that could potentially create a patent revolution in the state.
In the existing scenario, students have to raise the fund to file the patent. Once patent is filed, Kerala Start-up Mission reimburses the patent filing expenses to the students. Fund shortage for the students to afford to advance for patent filing expense was the major road block.
With this new scheme in place, a fund pool is formed by RSET Alumni Association that will be used to meet patent filing expenses for students. Once patent filing is completed Kerala startup Mission will reimburse the expenses to the Alumni Fund Pool. This will be a great relief for students in the state of Kerala whose patent filing aspirations are stuck due to shortage of fund.
Dr. Saji Gopinath, CEO, Kerala Startup Mission came down to the Centre for Social Innovation & Incubation at Rajagiri School of Engineering & echnology to inaugurate the event.
“Every big venture starts with a small step,” he said and appreciated the alumni’s initiative. China and India once had an equal number of patents, but now they are way ahead of us. Why? It is because though we Indian minds are brilliant, the initial expense pulls many of us back. Now this bottle neck is well addressed by the alumni association of Rajagiri School of Engineering & Technology. Any student can leverage the potential for an amount up to Rs 2 Lakhs for patent filing in India and up to Rs 10 Lakhs for International Patent Filing” said Dr. Saji Gopinath.
“This has simplified an otherwise hefty financial load on the students, and this amazing opportunity is open to any student from any background in Kerala who is looking for a helping hand to file patents.”, said Fr Dr. Mathew Vattathara, Director of Rajagiri School of Engineering & Technology who presided over the function.
“From today onwards, as a student, all you have to do is to simply focus on your innovation and its technical specifications for patent filings, we’ll take care of the money part” said Rijin John, President of RSET Alumni Association addressing the students.
This initiative will increase patent filing from Kerala that will in turn boost start-ups and their confidence. Patent filing will also attract more investors to Kerala as patent filed products and solutions always sell like hot cakes. Interested students may send in an email to patents@rajagiritech.edu.in following which the applicants will receive the detailed forms and procedures.
Dr A Unnikrishnan-Principal, Dr. John M George- Dean & Vice-Principal, Prof Dominic Mathew etc spoke during the function.
Earlier, RSET Alumni Association had set a role model for others by setting up an Intellectual Property Consulting Centre at RSET, which is the first of the kind in an educational institution in the state. The meeting concluded with a friendly chat with the various incubated start-ups at Rajagiri Incubation Centre.
