“Kerala should emulate Japan in adopting construction methods anticipating natural calamities”, opined Dr.N. Purnachandra Rao, Director of ESSO-National Centre for Earth Science Studies and Tokyo University Visiting Professor.
He was delivering a talk on guidelines for controlling landslides at the one day seminar organized by the Civil Engineering Division of School of Engineering, CUSAT. “The biggest tragedy in India is lack of co-ordination in disaster management and rescue operations. The land needs a disaster management system co-ordinating the public and other agencies by the government and officials. Floods, land slides and storms which are now frequent in Kerala should be anticipated while evolving construction strategies”, Dr. Rao added.
Dr.M.R. Radhakrishna Panicker, Principal School of Engineering presided. Dr. Babu T. Jose, M.D. Nair, Minimol Korulla, Dr.Anil Joseph, Dr.Glory Joseph and Dr.K.S. Beena spoke at the function.
