  • ISTD to Provide Skill Development for Engineering Students

By NE Reporter on August 24, 2017

    KOCHI:
Indian Society for Training and Development (ISTD) in association with IT Communication Technology Kerala Academy will conduct skill development programmes at various Engineering colleges in the State.
ISTD has been appointed as the nodal agency for assessments for Testing and Certification of Skills for all sectors in India. ISTD has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bahrain Society for Training & Development agreeing to cooperate with each other and extend necessary help and assistance for the furtherance of their common aims and objectives.
“As the majority of the Engineering students are finding it hard to find an employment, ISTD is committed to create skilled employees in the State through effective utilisation of human resources through education and training. The aim is to provide leadership and promote study and application of professional principles’ said ISTD National President Dr R Karthkeyan.
Skill level and educational attainment of workforce determines the productivity as well as ability to adapt to the changing industrial environment. Good marketing skills among employees are very limited in the country which is an impediment in getting decent employment and improvement of economic conditions, he said.
The reasons basically are – large percentage of population are living below poverty line, early school drop outs and non-availability of sufficient institutes to cater to millions of persons who enter the market every year.
The unskilled population earn lower wages and are exploited by employers.
Ministry of Labour & Employment has come out with more stringent measures to ensure quality training and certification and thus provide education and training as a mode that suits their economic compulsion, he added.
In India, the majority of the work force does not possess marketable skills which is an impediment in getting decent employment and improvement of economic conditions. The skill development programmes of ISTD recognise their skills and also provide education and training as a mode that suits their economic compulsion, said Karthikeyan.
ISTD Kochi Chapter is engaged in conducting programmes, authorised training conclave, national trainers’ summit, workshops and training programmes. The chapter is in the practice of presenting “Best Trainer of the Year Award” said Jose P Philip, Chairman, ISTD Kochi Chapter.
