KOCHI:
Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology (CIPET) is an ISO 9001:2015 QMS, NABL, ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accredited premier National Institute under the Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Govt. of India devoted to Skill Development,Technology support, Academic & Research (STAR) activities in all the domains of Plastics Engineering & Technology.
CIPET has 36 centres spread across the country and 05 more centres are in the process of establishment. CIPET kept on expanding and diversifying its activities by establishment of centres in different parts of the country and introduction of new programs to meet the industry’s requirements.
2. The CIPET:IPT Kochi is established with a total project cost of Rs. 24.90 Crores on equal contribution from Govt. of India and Govt. of Kerala. The Govt. of Kerala has provided 3.49 acres of land at HIL for construction of its own Academic building admeasuring 2000 sq.mtrs. with state-of-the-art infrastructure to conduct Training, provide Technology Support Services and Research in the field of Bio- polymer Science & Technology.
3. CIPET has taken an initiation to have a dedicated centre for academic and research programme exclusively in the area of Biopolymers and Natural material. The centre was initially functioning in temporary premises and so far, the centre had trained more than 120 students through the PG programmes affiliated with Cochin University of Science and Technology and the students were placed in reputed institutes/industries in India and abroad, mostly in the R&D Sector. The Centre also trained about 5000 unemployed youth of Kerala under Skill Development Training programs and placed in Plastics & allied industries. CIPET Kochi has conducted various Entrepreneur Development Programmes and Technology clinics for benefit of entrepreneurs and Plastics and allied Industries.
4. The existing plastics industries in Kerala and the budding entrepreneurs will derive immense benefits through the technology support services and skilled manpower offered by CIPET facility.So far, the Centre has rendered more than 2000 Technology Support Services to various Industries in the State. The Testing laboratory at the centre is accredited by NABL & approved by BIS.
The new CIPET:IPT Kochi building at HIL will be inaugurated and dedicated to the Nation by D.V.Sadananda Gowda, Minister for Chemicals & Fertilizers, Govt. of India in the august presence of V. Muraleedharan, Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, Govt. of India; C.P.Usha, Chairperson, Eloor Municipality; Prof. (Dr.) K.N.Madhusoodanan, Vice-Chancellor, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi; Joint Secretary (Petrochemicals), Govt. of India – Kashi Nath Jha; Director General, CIPET – Prof. (Dr.) S K Nayak, and Sr. officers from the State & Central Governments and members from plastics fraternity will be participating in the function scheduled to be held at CIPET:IPT, HIL Colony, Eloor on 31stOctober 2019 at 10:30 AM.
