Cusat Honoured Retiring Teachers
KOCHI:
Fourteen Retiring Faculty members of CUSAT were honoured at a function held at the Polymer Science and Rubber Technology Department.
Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. K. Paulose Jacob presided. In her address Cusat Vice Chancellor Dr. J. Letha appreciated the glorious service rented by the rerating faculty. The honoured teachers were Dr. M.
(School of Industrial Fisheries), Dr. John Mohan(School of Industrial Fisheries), Dr. K. P. Sankaranarayan Nair, (Division of Mechanical Engineering, School of Engineering) and Dr. Varghese Paul (Division of Information Technology, School of Engineering).
Dr. M. R. Anatharaman, Dr. A. Mujeeb, Dr. P. G. Sankaran, Dr. James Varghese and Dr. V. Sivanandan Achari were offered felicitations.
Applications Invited
School of Industrial Fisheries, Cochin University of Science and technology invites applications for Junior Research fellow from postgraduates in Industrial Fisheries/ Fisheries Science/ Marine Biology or Aquatic Biology from any Indian University. Sound knowledge in fish biochemistry, extraction and purification of natural organic compounds is essential. Candidates with previous work experience will be preferred.
Fishery cruise experience and working knowledge in high end laboratory equipment are desirable. The project work involve on- board cruises of 20-25 days duration. Only sea-worthy candidates willing to participate in cruises need to apply. Relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST and female candidates and 3 years for

Cusat: Marine Researcher Bags Prestigious DBT Award
Dr Jayesh P., Post Doctoral Fellow of CUSAT, has been selected for the prestigious Innovative Young Biotechnologist Award of the year 2015 instituted by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India to prevent brain drain of highly talented and motivated young Scientists in Biotechnology.
This is the first time a University from Kerala receives the coveted award. IYBA was instituted by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India in 2005, under the Ministry of Science and Technology, to be given away every year to outstanding young Scientists in India below the age 35 with innovative ideas and desire to undertake research in frontier areas of Biotechnology.
Dr. Jayesh was selected for the award in recognition of the potential of his research in the area of “crustacean cell reprogramming” under the guidance of Prof. I.S. Bright Singh and its continuation to find application to study neurogenesis and neurodegenerative diseases. The outcome of this project will help in understanding molecular mechanism in neurodegenerative diseases in human especially Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s using Daphnia as model animal.
The award consists Rs. 50 lakhs research grant, monthly fellowship, gold medal, certificate and a citation.
He is the recipient of “Brain Korea 21 Plus” post-doctoral Scientist award of Govt. of South Korea and CCMB Post-doctoral fellowship and participated in Indian Arctic Scientific Expedition in 2015. The IYBA
will be implemented at National Centre for Aquatic Animal Health, Cochin University of Science and Technology. He is the son of P.K Chandrasekharan (Retd. Teacher) and Smt. P. Sobhana of Puthumana,
Maraloor, Quilandy, Calicut.
