In the Annual Swachh Campus Ranking 2019 of Higher Educational Institutions conducted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India, Rajagiri College of Social Sciences (Autonomous), Kalamassery has been ranked second amongst the cleanest higher educational institutions in the country in the category Residential Colleges-UGC.
This ranking is based on a sustainability audit of campus greenery, solar power use, rainwater harvesting, waste management, sewage treatment plant, cleanliness and maintenance, toilet adequacy, and community outreach in promoting Swachh culture. The inspection at the campus was held on August 30, 2019.
Minister of HRD, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank presented the award to Principal, Dr. Binoy Joseph, who received it on behalf of Rajagiri at a function held in New Delhi on December 3, 2019.
The Annual Swachhata Rankings Awards for the cleanest and most hygienic higher educational institutions is an exercise by the Government of India to rank Higher Educational Institutions on the basis of cleanliness and hygiene. All institutions in the higher education system are expected to participate in the exercise and all the Centrally Funded Educational Institutions receiving grants need to necessarily participate.
