THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
The National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH) has invited applications for admissions to the two-year Diploma course in Indian Sign Language Interpretation (DISLI), conducted by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).
The course aims to meet the growing requirement of professional sign language interpreters, who interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa.
As per the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, the services of sign language interpreters are mandatory now for all activities and programmes in visual media, government organizations, education sector and various other public and private offices.
There are 30seats available for the course. Applicants must have passed Plus-two or equivalent examination from a recognized Central/State Board of Education with minimum 50 per cent marks aggregate.
Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates are eligible for exemptions as per the state Act. Proficiency in any regional language or English is preferable.
Last date of applications is November 11.
