Patent for Cusat research invention
Cochin University of Science and Technology is granted with Indian patent for an invention entitled ‘Nickel Nanoparticle Synthesis’- a research output, for a term of 20 years. This is in accordance with the
provisions of the Patent Act 1970, Govt. of India. Dr. M R Anantharaman, a nano magnetic scientist and also a UGC- BSR Faculty, Dept. of Physics, Cusat and Dr. E Muhammad Abdul Jamal, retired Principal, Govt. Arts and Science College, Kozhikode are the inventors. The present invention provides a dry rather than the conventional wet method for the synthesis of nickel nano particles, which are ‘nickel nano sponges’ with high surface area. It can be used in manufacturing anode fuel cells, catalytic converter of automotives, magnetic fluids and ferro fluids, biomedical equipments, computer, increasing the efficiency of petrol or diesel engines, protective coating on fibers and wires etc. The practice of ‘targeted drug delivery treatment’ in the medical field is one of the highlights of this invention, said Dr. Anantharaman and Dr. Jamal. It took 4 years of strenuous research for this, they added.
