THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) has invited applications from eligible institutions to start Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centres (IEDC) on campuses to promote technological entrepreneurship among students.
Launched in 2014, IEDC aims at promoting innovation and entrepreneurial culture in educational institutions. IEDC will be a learning and innovation platform where academic institutions will identify the students who can come up with innovations backed by technology.
IEDC as innovation platform will create awareness and exposure among the student community on the possibilities of technology and entrepreneurship and thereby attempting to create a robust environment of ventures of social relevance by the budding entrepreneurs. Students are also provided training to create innovative startups.
KSUM supports the IEDCs through various schemes, including an annual grant of Rs 2 lakh to institutions to accomplish three core entrepreneurial aspects- innovation, technology and business. Other support services include selected cases on travel grants, IP reimbursement, Prototype grant, and Idea Fest.
Though the scheme was initiated in Engineering Colleges, later this was extended to Arts and Science Colleges and Polytechnics, Management institutions and others as well.
