V. M. Salgaocar Institute of International Hospitality Education (VMSIIHE) recently inducted its fifth batch of students for the academic year 2018-19 at its campus in Raia, Goa, accompanied by their parents and guardians. This year, besides students from Goa, VMSIIHE witnessed admissions from Kolkata, Kerala, Pune and Kolhapur as well as NRI students from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait and Bahrain.
The induction ceremony commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Mirza, Director and Principal, VMSIIHE followed by an introduction of the faculty and the staff.
Professor Irfan Mirza, Director and Principal, V. M. Salgaocar Institute of International Hospitality Education, remarked that “At VMSIIHE, we offer a unique curriculum and world class infrastructure to prepare the students for the ever-changing needs of the hospitality industry. Our goal is to make this institute the center of excellence for the hospitality industry in India. We are here to ensure that all our students acquire the knowledge and skills that are unmatched in this field. The students have an opportunity to get trained under the guidance of senior industry and academic experts.”
The Director introduced the students to the culture and legacy of the institute while also sharing an insight into what an academic life at VMSIIHE would entail including a globally relevant curriculum, internship programs at leading luxury hotels, student exchange programmes and international exposure through collaborations with Institutes in Europe. He stressed on the need for a disciplined outlook and the right attitude which can go a long way in preparing a student for the future ahead.
The students and parents were also made aware of the opportunities available to them such as interest free education loans for Higher Education offered by the Goa Education Development Corporation (GEDC) through an informative presentation by Prof. Bhaskar Nayak, Former Director of Directorate of Technical Education.
The 3rd year students shared their experiences on ways and means to improve the academic experience on campus which left the new batch brimming with excitement and enthusiasm at the start of the new academic year.
Affiliated to the Goa University and supported by the Marriott Group, VMSIIHE offers a B.Sc. in International Hospitality Management. The institute has an existing collaboration with Turismo de Portugal resulting from an MoU signed between the two countries. The institute also has a strategic partnership with Business and Hotel Management School (BHMS) in Lucern, Switzerland, one of the most sought after hospitality institutes globally. The partnership opens the door to opportunity to students of the institute for knowledge exchange, study tours and further studies in Switzerland.
