V. M. Salgaocar Institute Recognises Students for their Outstanding Performance

It was a joyous occasion as Prof. Varun Sahni, Vice – Chancellor, Goa University presented awards to the students of V. M. Salgaocar Institute of International Hospitality Education (VMSIIHE) for their outstanding performance in the past academic year during the institute’s 1st Annual Award Ceremony.
The ceremony also had in attendance Silvia Sahni; Dattaraj V. Salgaocar, Chairman and MD, VM Salgaocar Corporation Pvt. Ltd., Prof. Irfan Mirza, Director, VMSIIHE, faculty members and students of the institute. 45 awards were handed out to deserving students by the Vice Chancellor during the ceremonial event.
The Annual Award Ceremony at VMSIIHE began with the Director’s Report on the institute’s performance over the past academic years. Prof. Irfan Mirza, Director, V. M. Salgaocar Institute of International Hospitality Education highlighted the achievements of the institute and its students.
Said Chief Guest, Prof. Varun Sahni, Vice – Chancellor, Goa University during the key note address, “This institute is pushing boundaries of what education means. Knowledge and skill go hand-in-hand. Knowledge is ‘know what’ and skill is ‘know how. We have a challenge of maintaining a balance of knowledge and skill in our education system. VMSIIHE focuses on skills by being innovative and doing things differently.”
Prof. Varun Sahni, handed over the special awards to deserving students during the ceremony. The Outstanding Student of the Year Award was handed over to Lionel Noronha. Students Riya Chandra, Sahil Essani and Lionel Noronha received the Excellent Academic Performance Awards for the First Year, Second Year and Third Year batches respectively.
Speaking at the Award Ceremony, Prof. Irfan Mirza, Director, V. M. Salgaocar Institute of International Hospitality Education said, “We offer an unique curriculum and world class infrastructure to prepare the students to the ever changing needs of hospitality. Our goal is to make this institute as the center of excellence for Hospitality industry in India. A group of students this year from our institute will be travelling to France, Holland, Portugal and Switzerland to learn more about the hospitality culture. It gives me great pleasure to inform you that 18 students this year will be going to Portugal on a paid internship with stay included. We have awards for students scoring the highest in leadership programs and encourage exposure of our students through various knowledge exchange programs and cultural events. This year, we hosted students from Portugal at VMSIIHE. We look forward to students benefiting from such programs”.
Dattaraj V. Salgaocar, Chairman and MD, VM Salgaocar Corporation Pvt. Ltd. added, “I am delighted to be present at the 1st Annual Award Ceremony of VMSIIHE. Prof. Mirza has exposed the students of VMSIIHE to the fascinating world of hospitality. We as part of Salgaocar Group are committed to offering excellenc in education.”
The Award Ceremony at VMSIIHE will be an annual feature in the institute’s calendar, acknowledging the hard work, creativity and dedication of its students.
