Goa Institute of Management (GIM) is celebrating 25 glorious years of imparting knowledge to the country’s future corporate leaders. The premier B-School began the year – long celebration by hosting its annual convocation ceremony for the PGDBM batch of 2017-18 at its sprawling campus in Sanquelim, Goa. Deepak Parekh, Chairman, HDFC Bank delivered the convocation address to 298 students who received the coveted MBA diploma.
Students turned professional managers received the diploma after having completed over 22 months of academically packed, rigorous training with exposure to live industrial projects as well as community oriented assignments.
Of the 298 students who were awarded their diplomas at the convocation ceremony, 249 are full-time PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management) students, 20 are from the PGDM-PT (Post Graduate Diploma in Management – Part Time) program and 29 students are from PGDM-HCM (Post Graduate Diploma in Healthcare Management) program.
The Convocation ceremony at GIM began with the Director’s Report on the institute’s performance for the last academic year where Prof. Ajit Parulekar, Director, GIM highlighting the achievements of the B-school and its students. The students of GIM proved that they are the products of one of the best in B-schools across the country with placement offers from some of the top companies in India which included McKinsey, Citi Bank, WNS Global Services, Kraft Heinz, Vedanta, NeoNiche, Digit General Insurance and Pharmaceuticals, Insurance, Healthcare IT, Operations, Market research and start-ups among others. Most of the students have received lucrative placement offers.
Said Chief Guest Deepak Parekh, Chairman, HDFC Bank, “I am delighted to be here today. Over the past 25 years, Goa Institute of Management has carved a niche for itself among B-schools. This education institution has a unique precedence of being ahead of the curb, introducing new programs that are relevant to current trends, such as HR analytics, healthcare management, innovation and incubation centers and principle based management education. The driving message resonates very well with me, which is ‘learning never stops at GIM’.” Speaking to the students, he added, “As you leave this institution, you not only take with you knowledge on specific subjects but also key tools of life which are being responsive, creative and enterprising. With these skillsets, the sky is the limit to what can be achieved.” Also present at the convocation ceremony were members of the Board of Governors, students and faculty members of the institute.
Deepak Parekh, handed over the diplomas and special awards of merits to deserving students. Shri Damodar Sripad Borkar Gold medal for Best Academic Performance PGDM was handed to Varun Khanuja while Aishwarya Alias Ankita Ugam Sinai Usgaokar received the GIM Silver Medal for Academic Performance. The Dr. Deepa Martin’s Memorial Award for special recognition of Extra Curricular Activities was awarded to Pai Khot Dinraj Vijaykumar. Blossom D’souza received the Nirmal Goswami Gold Medal for Communications while The GIM Alumni Association Gold Medal for Best Summer Project was awarded to Vidhi Agarwal. The coveted Fr. Romuald D’Souza Gold Medal for Best Student of the Year PGDM was awarded to Anjali Bhat. GIM Gold Medal for Best Academic Performance for the PGDM-PT program was awarded to Saurabh Saxena and the Dr. Francis & Chantal Pinto award for the best student of the was awarded to Saurabh Saxena as well. GIM Gold Medal for Best Academic Performance PGDM – HCM was awarded to Prathamesh Alias Sachchidanand Gurudas Pai Bir and the GIM silver Medal for Best Academic Performance PGDM – HCM was awarded to Costa Roana Maria.
Speaking at the Convocation, Prof. Ajit Parulekar, Director, GIM said, “We can see that we have been making a lot of progress. I have never seen such excellent numbers on all parameters of GIM. With 25 years of GIM, we are poised to take on much bigger challenges. Tectonic shifts are present in the manner in which tasks are completed. Education too is seeing changes on multiple levels. Skills will not be assessed on paper but on performance in the real world.”
