THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
‘Marupiranthal’ (Her Rebirth), a Tamil music album that won accolades in many international film festivals, has released on noted Tamil Music Director Yuvan Shankar Raja’s YouTube Channel, U1 Records, on December 10, 2019. The album was launched on the Facebook page of Yuvan Shankar Raja. It had received overwhelming response in the international film festivals.
The songs in the music album, directed Dr. Shani Hafees and Adarsh N Krishna, are sung by Dr.Shani Hafees and her daughter Reyah Fatima Hafees. The lyrics are by noted lyricist Ruxeena Musthafa. The music direction is by Yeldho John.
The album portrays the emotional rebirth of a woman. The title of the album Marupiranthaal was also based on the same. The album beautifully narrates story of a transgender sex worker, who accidently gets a girl child, and the issues and mental problems faced by her while upbringing the child. The main character of the album, which was shot in locations such as Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and Thenkasi, is played by well-known celebrity transgender makeup artist Renju Renjimar. The daughter’s role is played by Rose Sherin Ansari, who gained attention for her role in short film ‘Sundari’.
The music album, which deals with women empowerment, has already screened in many international film festivals. It bagged award for the best music album in film festivals such as International Thai Film Festival, Calcutta International Cult Film Festival, Budha International Film Festival in Pune and Festigious International Film Festival in Los Angeles, bronze medal in Global Music Awards California and semi-finalist in Rome Prisma Awards, Italy. Marupiranthaal is also the official entry in International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala, AAB International Film Festival of Punjab, LGBTQ Shorts Film Festival of US and International Short Film Festival of Pune.
Dr. Shani Hafees, director and script writer of the album, said that it was done after waiting for a period of ten years. The album was the result of her desire to sing a song with her daughter. The songs sung by mother-daughter duo give a clear message to the society. Dr. Shani Hafees added that she decided to do the album in Tamil because of her love for the language.
The album is produced by AYURDHA Media House. The crew includes by Abi Reji (camera), Premsai Mukundan (editing), Kalamandalam Vaisakh (makeup), Santhosh Pappanaamcode (art), Vineesh Nenmara (associate director), Nithin Kootungal (mix and master), Deepak Gangadharan (colourist), Shermina Simi (titles and subtitles), Nikhil Anamika (graphics), Arun Damodaran (stills) and Mamijo and Ananthu S.
