KOCHI:
The Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF) will organise a concert by popular rock music band Baiju Dharmajan Syndicate at the Kochi Carnival as part of the New Year celebrations in Fort Kochi here on December 31.
The music night, led by the Kochi-based guitarist and composer Baiju Dharmajan, will be held from 10pm to 11.30pm on New Year’s eve. According to the KBF Secretary Riyas Komu the concert is a tribute to the cultural heritage of Kochi which was a major factor in helping the Kochi Biennale hog the limelight globally. “The Kochi Carnival is one of the hallmarks of this heritage; so through this music event, the KBF becomes a participant in the cultural legacy,” he said.
KBF President Bose Krishnamachari, said the Foundation was delighted to be participating in the New Year celebrations. He said the sense of community and togetherness fostered by Kochi, which was on full display at the Carnival, was vital to the success of the Biennale.
Carnival Committee Secretary V.D. Majeendran noted that since its inception, the KBF has had a close association with the Carnival. “We have worked very well together to drive the activities of both the Biennale and the Carnival. The Kochi Carnival, which has been taking place for the last three-and-a-half decades, is one of the biggest unified and participatory celebrations of heritage in the state,” he added.
