Kalasagar Award Announced

Kalasagar Award 2017 in the field of traditional performing art form is announced and will be presented when Kalasagar is celebrating the 93rd birth anniversary of its founder, Kalamandalam Krishnankutty Poduval, on 28 May 2017 titled as Oru Piranalinte Ormakayi at Regional Theatre, Thrissur.
Kalasagar has been celebrating its anniversary as Oru Piranalintge Ormakayi on May 28 which has now become a part of the cultural calendar of Kerala with wholehearted co-operation, active support and participation of art lovers and well wishers, the function always proved grand and glorious tribute to the late mastero. As part of the 93rd birth anniversary observance of chenda maestro Kalamandalam Krishnankutty Poduval, Kalasagar will be honoring the artistes in the field of Kathakali – Vesham, Music, Chenda, Maddalam & Chuttty as well as Bharathanatyam, Mohiniyattom, Kuchipudi, Ottenthullal, Chakyarkoothu, Koodiyattam, Thayambaka and Panchavadyam – Thimila, Maddalam, Edakka, Thalam & Kombu. The Awardees has been selected through nominations received from the art lovers.
Award winners. Katghakali: Vesham/Actor – Ranjini Suresh, Pattu/Music – Nedumbully Ram Mohan, Chenda/Percussion – Kalanilayam Kunjunni, Maddalam/Percussion – Kalamandalam Achutha Warrier, Chutty/Make-up – Erur Manoj. Ottenthullal – Kaliyath Suresh, Chakyarkoothu – Rajaneesh Chakyar, Koodiyattom – Kapila Venu, Mohiniyattom – Shyamala Surendran, Bharathanatyam – Sudha Peethambaran, Kuchupudi – Giriaja Chandran, Thyayambaka – Manjeri Haridas. Panchavadyam: Thimila – Kongad Radhakrishnan, Maddalam – Kottakkal Ravi, Edakka – Kavil Ajayan, Thalam – Parakkad Babu, Kombu – Cherpu Unnikrishnan.
Eminent personalities from the field of art and culture will be participating in the event and present the awards. After the presentation of the awards Kathakali play Dakshayagam will be staged in which leading artist viz. Sadanam Krishnankutty (Veerabhadran), Kottakkal Chandrasekhara Varrier (Dakshan), Kalamandalam Ramachandranunnithan (Bhadrakali), Kalamandalam Balasubramaniyan (Siva), Ranjini Suresh (Sathi), Kalamandalam Harinarayanan (Indran), P D Namboodiri, Nedumbulli Raman, Sadanam Jyothis (Music), Kalamandalam Krishnadas, Kottakkal Prasad (Chenda), Kalanilayam Manoj, Kalamandalam Venu (Maddalam), Kalamandalam Sivaraman (Chutty) will be participating.
