The 32 nd all India Conference of Indian Association of Special Libraries and Information Centres(IASLIC) was inaugurated by Dr. K. N. Madhusoodanan, Vice Chancellor of Cochin University of Science and Technology at the Science Seminar Complex of the university today.
In his inaugural speech, Dr.Madhusoodanan said that it was heartening to note that the organisation has been able to train its members across the country effectively according to the rapid changes affecting them in the wake of the technological advancement and connected change in circumstances, though positively.
Prof. C.R. Karisiddappa who presided over the function said that it is crucial for the continued bright prospects of library professionals that they adapt to the changing technological scenario and the circumstances around, acquire scholarly knowledge and technical skill in all the various facets of their activity to provide necessary guidance to the visitors in the library and information centre. “You should foresee the changes that the rapid technological advancement could bring about in the fields of media, publication, etc and be prepared to guide and provide solutions to those coming in search of information”, he opined.
The souvenir of the conference was released by Dr. K N Madhusoodanan handing over a copy to Prof. Karisiddappa and the conference abstract was released by Prof. Karisiddappa giving a copy to the Vice Chancellor. SajalKantiGoswami, General Secretary, IASLIC, Syndicate members Prof. S.M. Sunoj and Dr. R Poornima Narayan, CUSAT LibrarianDr. C Beena and Anil Radhakrishnan spoke at the function. IASLIC awards for distinguished services in various fields were also distributed at the function. The three day conference being organised by Cochin University Library will come to a close on 5 th December.
