KOCHI:
The Kochi Biennale Foundation’s ‘Arts and Medicine’ project welcomed 2017 with renewed hopes of healing through art and a message from the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Verapoly, Rev. Dr. Joseph Kalathiparambil, on the importance of therapeutic music in mitigating suffering from illnesses.
It was the turn of singer Bibin George today to dazzle the crowds at the Government General Hospital where the KBF organizes its weekly programme every Wednesday.
He presented a mélange of carefully chosen old and new songs to an audience of patients, bystanders and hospital staff who responded with spontaneous applause and acclamation.
For the Archbishop, it was his first public programme after being designated to head the diocese.
“To visualize a society devoid of diseases and ailments is impractical at this stage, where the air that we breathe, the food that we consume and the water that we drink are all highly polluted. These indirectly causes us to be victims of ill-health. Therapeutic musical shows like this initiative by KBF which provides solace to patients is very welcome.”
Bibin was accompanied by Yahiya Azeez and Mani, a social worker who sings for charity. Together they belted out a dozen songs in Malayalam and Hindi. Bibin started with the song , ‘Anuragini Itha En Karalil Virnija Pookal’ (Oru kudakkeezhil, 1985 ) which moved onto, ‘Kalakalam Kayalolangal’, (Ee Ganam Marakkumo, 1978) and concluded with the song , ‘Anuraga Lola Gathri’ (Dhwani, 1988).
Vocalist Bibin, is a first year philosophy student at Aluva Carmelgiri Pontifical Seminary and has trained in music under Perumbavoor Chandramana Namboothiri. To add to his credit of musical experience, he has the enviable prize of the second runner up at the music reality show, Indian Voice-2012 , held in Mazhavil Manorama Television channel.
This week’s musical show marked the 151st episode of the all-Wednesday series organized by the Kochi Biennale Foundation in association with
providing solace to the patients through therapeutic music.
