Biennale Music: ‘Mappila Pattukal’ Capture the Ramadan Spirit at General Hospital

‘Mapilla Pattukal’ rendered by singers Shefeek Perumbavoor and Shabeer Kochi hit all the right notes in the month of Ramadan setting the tone for the latest ‘Arts and Medicine’ musical programme held at the Government General Hospital here on Wednesday.
The 175th edition of the weekly show organised by the Kochi Biennale Foundation drew a fair crowd of bystanders, patients and medical staffers as the singers teamed up with the orchestra for an hour-long musical fiesta weaving together a string of familiar contemporary melodies and evergreen numbers from the golden eras.
The programme opened with ‘Sundaramam Perunnal’ by Shefeek, denoting the beauty of Ramadan. Together, he and Shabeer, a B A music student at Maharajas College, Ernakulam, crooned over a dozen songs concluding the show with the song, ‘Ezham Beharinte’.
Shefeek’s rendition the of all-time favourite , ‘Samkritha Pamagari’, originally sung by K J Yesudas drew generous applause from the audience.
An enthusiastic vocalist, Shefeek is a regular presence in music programmes on popular television channels including kairali-‘Patturumal’, Jaihind-‘Meharuba’and on ‘WE” Kairali.
Shabeer has successfully tried his hands at music direction and also lent his voice in the musical album ‘Eh Snehatheerathu’ by actor and Playback singer Vineeth Sreenivasan.

The all-Wednesday ‘Arts and Medicine’ is an initiative of the Kochi Biennale Foundation in association with Mehboob Memorial Orchestra and sponsored by CAFS (Casino Air Caterers & Flight Services) aiming to provide solace to patients through therapeutic music.
