KOCHI:
The heavy rain clouds gave way to clear skies, setting a perfect stage for singers Bimal Pankaj and Julie Justine to dish out a memorable performance replete with nostalgic numbers at the weekly ‘ Arts and Medicine’ programme at the Government general Hospital here today.
A playback singer, music director and vocal groomer all rolled into one, Bimal began the show with the rendition of the song, ‘Innale Mayangumbol’ from the 1967 movie Anweshichu Kandethiyilla, originally sung by K J Yesudas. He followed it up
Bimal was accompanied by Julie who matched him in mellifluousness by crooning ‘Sindhoora Poove’ and quite a few songs, adding zing to the musical extravaganza.
Bimal has an experience of over 28 years in the music field and has assisted music legends like Raveendran Master and Johnson Master.
Julie, a homemaker and passionate student of music, is learning Carnatic music under the tutelage of teachers Bimal and Aruna. er singing was well in tune with the orchestra, an integral part of the music show intended to provide solace to patients.
The lawns of the hospital where the programme is staged saw a fair crowd comprising patients, bystanders and medical staff gathered to enjoy the rapturous flow of songs. Together, the singers sang 15 songs which evoked generous applause from the audience.
“All forms of music may have therapeutic effect but music from one’s heart can be more effective,” said Bimal, underlining the positive effects of music on troubled souls.
The 176th episode of the musical show concluded with ‘Kuyilinte Maninadam’. The duet ‘Chandrikayil Aliyunnu Chandrakaantham’ was a gripping performance which mesmerized the crowd.
The all-Wednesday ‘Arts and Medicine’ is an initiative of the Kochi Biennale Foundation in association with Mehboob Memorial Orchestra and sponsored by CAFS (Casino Air Caterers & Flight Services), which strives to provide solace to patients through therapeutic music.
