  • Biennale Music: Marathon Singer Sudheer Paravoor Dazzles Crowd at General Hospital

By NE Reporter on December 22, 2016

    KOCHI:
It was not as formidable a task as attempting a Guinness world record, but for singer Sudheer winning the hearts of patients at General hospital today was an equally worthwhile exercise.
‘Guinness Sudheer’, as he is popularly known for his attempt at setting the record for marathon singing, recreated some goldenanm_sudheerparavoor melodies for the patients at the all-Wednesdays ‘Arts and Medicine’ programme held at the General Hospital here today.
The energetic vocalist, hailing from Paravoor, started the event with the Tamil song, Ammavai Vanagatha (Mannan) gliding into a dozen songs stringed into a splendid chain pearl-decked with two duets with Shreeshma Jayesh, Tharapadham Chedoharam, (Anashwaram) and Pookkal Panineer Pookkal (Action Hero Biju).
Vocalist and music student Shreeshma, from suburban Palluruthy, who has gained fame after her appearance in popular television channels delivered her songs with precision and quality.
“Setting a record is not easy, one’s vocal chords have to withstand the strain to last that long, but I am confident in my singing,” said Sudheer. His Guinness record attempt was held on February 16 at the India Social and Cultural Centre, Abu Dhabi, UAE, where he sang over 650 songs in three languages — Malayalam, Tamil and Hindi — for a whopping 110 hours. The record is yet to be officially ratified, but Sudheer is already thinking of setting the bar higher at 151 hours.
“I am in search of a venue which can be witness to my next attempt in setting a new Guinness world record, and KBF has offered this opportunity to perform before the patients which itself is a greater ho
nour and equally paramount like the record attempt,” added the singer.
Drawing inspiration right from childhood from the veteran singer K J Yesudas and music icons Raveendran Master and Ilayaraja, Sudheer, when asked about his ambition in life, said: “To reach insurmountable heights in music…music is my heart”.
Every rendition was met with great applause from an appreciative audience consisting of patients, bystanders and hospital staff. Sudheer concluded the musical extravaganza with the Hindi song, Aane Se Uske Aaye Bahar (Jeene Ki Raah, 1969).
This week’s show marked the 148th episode of the programme which is organised by Kochi Biennale Foundation in association with Lakeshore Hospital and Research Centre Limited providing solace to the patients through art.
