After a break of some months, the corridors of Cochin Medical College, Kalamassery,resounded again with vibrant Biennale music as singers Krishenendu Thinkal and Yahiya Azeez gave a live performance as part of the ‘Art and Medicine’ show here today.
The event marked the 141st episode of the programme, organised by the Kochi Biennale Foundation in association with Mehboob Memo
Krishnendu, a music graduate from Maharajas College, Ernakulam and a native of Njarakkal began the show with ‘Moham Kondu Njaan’ from the 1983 movie Shesham Kaazhchayil. The singers teamed up to render a dozen songs in Malayalam, Hindi and Tamil to huge applause from the gathered crowd of patients, bystanders and hospital staff.
“To be able to bring solace to patients through music is a remarkable idea. The Biennale Foundation acting as a catalyst behind the scenes is worthy of praise,” said Krishnendu.
Krishnendu is an active participant in regional musical shows and shows outside India. She reached the final round of the Radio Mango show ‘Naatile Thaaram’ and participates in ‘Pin Nilaavu’,a show in a leading Malayalam Channel. During the performance today she straddled different eras of music stringing together mellifluous numbers which suited the taste of the audience.
Meanwhile, Yahiya Azeez, a singer who is an indispensable personality when it comes to Biennale music events showcased his musical expertise with his sprightly participation. He also wound up the show with the evergreen song, Oru Pushpam Mathramenfrom the 1967 Nazir starrer, ‘Pareeksha’.
Apart from Krishnendu and Azeez another singer Jimson sang the number ‘Pramadavanam’ from the 1990 Mohanlal starrer ‘His Highness Abdullah’ adding spice to the whole event.
The crowd seemed to fully enjoy the music and heartily applauded the performance.
