KOCHI:
The Women In Cinema Collective (WCC) on Sunday came out with support to actor Nisha Sarang, who made serious allegations against the director of the TV serial Uppum Mulakum.
Nisha, who handles the central character in the serial, alleged the director misbehaved with her causing physical and mental agony. She further alleged the director used to send her dubious messages and even made sexist remarks openly at the sets of the serial.
Meanwhile, extending support to Nisha, the WCC posted on the Facebook page they are with her.
“Our protest is for each and every women who is getting humiliated and harassed at her workplace. Our efforts are pointed towards one goal — the birth of a work atmosphere where there is gender equality and nobody is abused. The police are responsible to register a suo motu case on the basis of her complaint. The people’s representatives should take this case further if the legal system is not discharging their duties. The film bodies in which she is a member of are also responsible to resolve the issues. We are also with her and every woman who is being harassed,” said the post.
Meanwhile, Flowers TV, in which the serial Uppum Mulakum is being telecast, in its official page clarified Nisha Sarang will continue as the character Neelu. “The news that Nisha Sarang was removed from the serial is not correct. Nisha Sarang will continue handling the role of Neelu in the serial, which has already completed 650 episodes. The channel management is also seriously looking into the complaints raised by Neelu. We are also ensuring the actor that her complaints will be resolved. The shooting of the serial will not be disrupted,” the management mentioned in the official page of Flowers TV on Facebook.
