Kalasagar will be celebrating the 94th birth anniversary of its founder, Kalamandalam Krishnankutty Poduval, on 28 May 2018 with the support Ministry of Culture, Government of India & Kerala and Kathakali Aswadaka Sadassu, Edappaly titled as Oru Piranalinte Ormakayi at Changapuzha Park, Edappally.
Kalasagar has been celebrating its anniversary as Oru Piranalinte Ormakayi on May 28 which has now become a part of the cultural calendar of Kerala and with wholehearted co- operation, active support and participation of art lovers and well wishers, the function always proved grand and glorious tribute to the late mastero. As part of the 94th birth anniversary observance of chenda maestro Kalamandalam Krishnankutty Poduval, Kalasagar will be honoring the artistes in the field of Kathakali – Vesham, Music, Chenda, Maddalam & Chuttty as well as Bharathanatyam, Mohiniyattom, Kuchipudi, Ottenthullal, Chakyarkoothu, Koodiyattam, Thayambaka and Panchavadyam – Thimila, Maddalam, Edakka, Thalam & Kombu. The Awardees has been selected through nominations received from the art lovers.
Babu Nambudiri, Cine Artist, will be the guest of honor. Dr. K.G. Paulose, First Vice Chancellor of Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University will be inaugurating the event. Dr. Mohan Bose, President of Changapuzha Samskarika Kendram will preside over the proceedings.
P Jayachandran, noted playback singer, Padma Shri Mattanoor Sankarankutty Marar, V Kaladharan, Dr. Manoj Kurur and other celebrities/scholars/well known gurus from the field of traditional art form are expected to participate and give away the awards. Dr. P. Venugopalan will deliver the key note address.
The programme will commence at 5.00 p.m. on 28th May 2018. The highlight of the event will be Kathakali play Lavanasuravadham in which Kottakkal Devadas will be doing the role of Seetha for the first time, Sadanam Krishnankutty (Hanuman), Kalamandalam Ramachandranunnithan (Sathrugnan), Peesappilly Rajeev (Kusan), Kalamandalam Pradeep (Lavan). Kottakka Narayanan, Kalanilyam Rajeev, Kalamandalam Balasundaran, Trippunithura Gopkrishnan Thampuran, Varavoor Haridas, RLV Jithin, Kalanilayam Saji, Eroor Manoj and other eminent artists will be participating in the programme.
