KOCHI:
The sunlit premises of the Government General Hospital resonated with renditions by the singers of ‘Music Unlimited’, a whatsapp group comprising exclusively Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) employees and their family members, as part of the ‘Arts and Medicine’ programme organised by the Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF) here today.
The all-Wednesday programme, which entered the 191st episode this week, saw six singers of the group dishing out a mellifluous performance. Two years since its inception, the group, which has a strength of over 250 members joined together by their passion for music and a slogan, ‘Music is our religion’, includes professional and amateur singers, mainly from Kochi.
Singers Anupa Jose, S Ramaswamy, Ajith C V, C Mukundan, Gigi A George and K P Rajeev, all working with the LIC, teamed up for a dazzling performance at the hospital meant for the solace of patients. The singers carried off the performance with panache, evoking an enthusiastic applause from the crowd that queued up on the corridors and lawns of the hospital for the show.
Singer Ajith set the mood by crooning the uplifting evergreen song by the Kaithapram-Yesudas-Johnson trio ‘Brahma kamalam’, from the film ‘Savidham’ (1992) . Other singers of the group followed suit with the familiar soul-warming numbers. In all, they crooned 14 songs, mostly in Malayalam and two each in Hindi and Tamil.
Anupa and Ajith regaled the crowd with a couple of duets, ‘Pookal Panineer Pookal, and ‘Kudamulla Poovinum’. Ramaswamy concluded the show with ‘Sangeethame Amara Sallapame’ an evergreen song from the movie Sargam.
“The members of Music Unlimited are very active and rehearse to karoke, their passion for music being the backbone of the group,” said Anupa, the administrator of the group. “The opportunity given to us by KBF to perform on this platform turned out to be an overwhelming experience with a live welcoming response from the audience of patients, bystanders and medical staffers.”
Arts and Medicine programme is a joint initiative of the KBF and Mehboob Memorial Orchestra, and is sponsored by CAFS (Casino Air Caterers & Flight Services). It aims at providing solace to patients through live music performances.
