KOCHI:
Foundation for Restoration of National Values (FRNV) of which Dr. E. Sreedharan is the Founder President, organised a workshop on “restoration of Ethics, Values and Discipline in College Campus” on 28th Sept at IMA Hall, Kochi.
Justice B.Kemal Pasha delivered the key note address. Justice Kemal Pasha deplored the steep decline in discipline and lack of respect for teachers presently being witnessed in many of the colleges. Physical fights between groups of students, stabbing incidents and even murders are taking place. Outside elements are abetting and encouraging indiscipline thus denying the basic right to education of the majority by a handful of students. He exhorted Principals to standup boldly and put down such unlawful activities with the help of Courts, if necessary.
Dr.E.Sreedharan suggested Principals should keep the students busy with extracurricular activities such as tree planting, campus cleaning or other community services stating that “an idle mind is a devils workshop”. He informed them that the High Court of Kerala, through a number of landmark judgements, has upheld the supremacy and authority of Principals to enforce discipline in campus. They must take help from Courts if outside elements interfere in their lawful responsibilities and duties.
There was wide spread concern about the move of the Govt. to legalise political activities within campuses to which FRNV agreed to study the draft legislation and take up suitably with the Govt. and if needed be, take legal remedies.
