  • Western Digital Unveils Slimmest 5TB Portable Hard Drive

By NE Reporter on March 11, 2020

    KOCHI:
Although more than one in every four PC users in India has lost their content or data in the past, research* done by Western Digital in November 2019 in the country, finds that one in every two respondents does not take complete back up of their content.

Eighty-four percent of the audience blamed a virus attack, system crash, or a forgotten password as the main reasons for losing their data. According to the report, 42% of the respondents cited the paucity of time and the tediousness of the data backup process as the key deterrents for backing up their content. Among the researched group, only 24% of females and a meagre 18% among the 36-45 age group back up their data.

In the wake of consumers’ behaviours, Western Digital has introduced its newest My Passport™, its slimmest 5TB** portable hard drive, in the Indian market. The latest generation of the My Passport line is up to 30% smaller than its predecessor and offers much higher capacity.

The stylish design fits in the palm of a hand, yet has space to store, organize and share a tremendous amount of photos, videos, music and documents. The My Passport drive comes equipped with WD Backup software to help make sure that photos, videos, music and documents don’t get lost.

“People today want a storage device that matches their lifestyle: compact, snazzy, yet reliable. From listening to our customers, we keep innovating and introducing attractive products for them. Our award-winning My Passport line is now enhanced with the slimmest 5TB portable hard drive in the WD brand portfolio,” said Khalid Wani, Direct Channel Sales, Western Digital India.

“As the study points out, people find the process of backing up data inconvenient and time-consuming. Our new My Passport addresses this concern and offers automatic back up, where a user can just pick the time and frequency to back up important files from their system onto their My Passport drive,” Wani further added.

“People increasingly realize the importance of their content – often memories that should last a lifetime. If you look at the younger generation, from 22-35 years old, they are the trend drivers, and over 82% of them back up their data. We expect to see this habit spiralling to all consumer segments. So, we are delighted to introduce the new My Passport HDD as it matches our consumers’ lifestyles and, at the same time, provides the ease of use to help them back up their digital life and preserve their memories,” commented Jaganathan Chelliah, Director Marketing,Western Digital India.

“The new My Passport drive comes in a fresh new look and new colours, including Black, Blue and Red, and the My Passport for Mac drive in Midnight Blue,” Chelliah further added.

The new My Passport HDD is just 0.75 in (19.15mm) thick. The My Passport drive is formatted for Windows® 10 and features a USB 3.0 connector that is compatible with USB 2.0. The My Passport for Mac drive is formatted for macOS and has a USB-C™ connector to deliver plug-and-play storage out of the box.

To help consumers protect their content, the drive features WD Discovery™ software for WD Security™ (password protection and 256-bit AES Hardware Encryption), social media and cloud storage import (like Facebook, Dropbox and Google Drive™)*** and WD Drive Utilities™. All of the new drives are built with Western Digital reliability and come with a three-year limited warranty.

Data is at the heart of everything today. The Indian consumer is realizing the importance of their data and is exploring attractive options to save their data. Eighty- three percent of the Indian customers are likely to take a backup of their PC data in the future. Western Digital is uniquely positioned to offer just the right products for the varied needs of the consumers.

    Pricing and Availability
The My Passport drives are available now starting at just MSRP 4499 for 1TB to MSRP 10,999 for 5TB. My Passport HDD is available at popular e-commerce sites and at retailers near you.
