THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Administrative Reforms Committee chairman V S Achuthanandan has come out in support of Dr Jacob Vadakkanchery who was arrested by the crime branch in connection with the social media campaign against leptospirosis preventive medicine.
In a statement he said that it was not a right step in arresting a person who have spoke about his suggestions for a treatment. The arrest should have been avoided, he said.
He pointed out that arrest should have been made on scientific evidence. Achuthanandan also said that he was not aware whether what Vadakkanchery said is true or not.
Vadakkanchery was arrested following the directive of health minister K K Shailaja. Health Minister had sent a letter of DGP Loknath Behera stating that Jacob Vadakkanchery had been creating panic among the public about the preventive medicine for leptospirosis through a social media campaign. She said that Vadakkanchery raised baseless allegations by questioning the credibility of leptospirosis preventive efforts.
Health department had issued a protocol and high alert for prevention and cure of the disease.
