V. M. Salgaocar Institute of International Hospitality Education (VMSIIHE), Manora-Raia was awarded the ‘Cleanest College’ of the state for the third time in a row for the academic year 2018-19.
The institute was honoured with the ‘SwachchatamMahavidyalayaSamman’ from amongst 55 institutes affiliated to the Goa University. The objective of the ‘SwachchatamMahavidyalayaSamman’ scheme under the Swachch Bharat Mission is to encourage, motivate and institutionalise the concept of cleanliness and a green India among students, teaching community & support staff. The practices adopted by the top ranking institutions can be a benchmark for other institutions to emulate.
It was a proud moment for the faculty members and staffas Prof. Irfan Mirza, Principal and Director of VMSIIHE received the award at the hands of Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister for Human Resource Development in the presence of Dr.Mridula Sinha, Governor of Goa at the 31stAnnual Convocation Ceremony of Goa University which was held on 15th December, 2018..
The “Cleanest College” of the State of Goa was gauged on 10 Criteria. VMSIIHE maintains a rain water harvesting unit on campus and has its own sewage treatment plant to cater to the cleanliness of the campus. Other best practices followed are Re-use & recycle, reducing carbon footprint by ensuring that all staff & students vehicles are PUC compliant.
The institute continues to set the bar for the cleanest campus and had won the award previously for the years 2016-17 and 2017-18. The state-of-the-art campus spread across 6 acres of lush greenery surrounded by green fields is situated approximately 30 kms from the capital city Panaji, 5 kms from Margao and 25 kms from the airport. The campus is the perfect place for a student to learn and be nurtured into hotel management professionals and hospitality leaders of the future.
