By NE Reporter on March 13, 2019

    KOCHI:
The Kochi center of UST Global, a leading digital transformation solutions company, today celebrated Grandiose 2019.

Gradiose is an annual event to culminate the past academic year’s ‘Adopt a School’ initiative by the company. In 2018-19 academic year, UST Global Kochi center adopted 14 government schools where hundreds of employees volunteered their time. Ramesh Pisharody, Malayalam movie actor, director and renowned stage performer, was the chief guest at Grandiose 2019.

Grandiose 2019 held on March 13th witnessed active participation from 1500+ associates and close to 100 members from all the participating schools. The event had a special talent show segment for the students from the participating schools, a display of all the key activities/projects done as part of ‘Adopt a School’ program, and associates exchanged their best practices as part of an internal contest.

Going beyond the ‘cheque writing’ approach, UST Global’s social agenda encourages active involvement of its employees in contributing to various causes. These employee volunteer program provide an opportunity for employees to develop their personalities and leadership skills by pursuing aspirations outside their functional requirements. Mirroring UST Global’s mission of “Transforming Lives”, the employees are creating sustainable impact by volunteering their time in schools in their local communities.

Sunil Balakrishnan, Global Head for Development Center Operations, UST Global, said, “Adopt a School is a unique program of UST Global that encourages our associates to come together and contribute time for the development of students education. This academic year was extremely fulfilling in terms of the quality and scale of engagement with the schools. Beyond the 14 schools which we are supporting for last many years, this year we also provided assistance to rebuild a number of schools impacted by the floods. We are happy to recognize all the partner schools and our teams for their efforts at Grandiose 2019.”

Some of the key initiatives undertaken for schools in 2018-19 include full day program with Malayalam literary legends like M. K. Sanoo (professor, critic, biographer, orator), S. Rameshan Nair (poet, lyricist), K. L. Mohana Varma (novelist, short story writer, journalist) and Sreekumari Ramachandran (novelist, short story writer, orator, dancer and singer). This program was part of the year-long initiative to familiarize students with Malayalam literature. Additionally, the associates supported the School Library by donating books and helping students inculcate reading habits. Many visits to the Airport, Fire Station, Coir Board and Kochi Metro was organised to help students familiarise how these entities operate.

Training programs were organised on communication skills, yoga, dance, arts & craft and computer. The associates helped set up vegetable gardens in all the schools, celebrating the harvesting festival and the Environment Day.
