The regional level centenary of Union Bank of India was celebrated in Kochi on Monday. Union Bank of India came into existence on November 11, 1919. The first branch was opened in Mumbai on November 11, 1919. It was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi.
Union Bank of India which is the lead bank of Ernakulam district has 72 branches in district besides its regional office on MG Road UBI, in association with NABARD, also runs a lay man training centre at Nelladu near Muvattupuzha and staff training centre at Aluva. Volume of Region’s business is around 10000 crore.
Regional head A Krishnaswamy and deputy head Annie Diaz led centenary celebration at regional level. Marking the centenary celebration, a walkathon named Prabhatha bheri, involving bank’s staff was also organized from Rajendra Maidan to Regional Office on MG road.
