KOCHI:
State Industrial and Law Minister P Rajeev said that trained professional social workers have a great role to play in `today’s social empowerment. The minister was speaking after inaugurating the 9th Kerala Social Work Congress organized by the Kerala Association of Professional Social Workers (KAPS) at Thrikkakara Bharat Matha College.
6 people were awarded the first state social work award instituted at the state level. Fr. Jose Alex CMI, who led the Rajagiri College of Social Science and other educational institutions, received the Gurushresta Award for critical interventions in the field of social work teaching. Reni Jacob, Adv. Abraham OP (Karmasresta), Dr. Jobi Babu, Vrinda Das, and Srirag Kuruvat (Yuvasreshta) are the other award winners. 10000/- cash awards and mementos were presented by Minister P Rajeev. Lida Jacob IAS (Retired), Dr. Elsa Jacob, Dr. MP Antony, Sreekandan Nair, and others spoke at the occasion.
