PANAJI:
Eight tourists were rescued by Drishti lifesavers when the boat they were in capsized after being hit by a wave. The incident occurred on the afternoon of 11th November 2020 at Keri.
At about 12.50hrs at Keri, a water sports boat carrying a group of eight tourists toppled into the waters with the impact of an oncoming wave. The boat capsized, throwing all the occupants into the water.
The tourists panicked and started waving and calling out for help. The lifesavers on duty Vikram Talkar and Dhaku Talkar who were observing the coastline, immediately relayed a rescue call and both rushed to the spot along with rescue equipment. The victims were secured onto the board and rescue tube and brought to the shore safely, one at a time. Vikram and Dhaku made several trips into the water back and forth and ensured that the victims were brought back to ashore. Two victims were injured and hence primary first aid was administered.
