THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Heralding the festivities, State Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran will hoist the Onam Flag at Kanakakunnu here on September 8, at 6 pm.
Former State Minister C Divakaran MLA, who is also the Onam Celebrations Working Committee Chairman, will inaugurate the Onam Trade Fair at Suryakanthi grounds at Kanakakunnu the same day, at 4.30 pm.
K Ansalan MLA will preside over the function. City Corporation Councilor Palayam Rajan, Tourism Secretary Rani George, Tourism Director P Bala Kiran and Trade Fair and Exhibition Committee Convener Santhoshlal AR will attend the function.
The trade fair, being organised with the support of various government departments and business bodies, will have over 100 stalls featuring a range of goods including household articles, furniture, books, fancy items, handicraft objects and souvenirs. There will also be sales outlets of Fisheries Department and women’s self-help group Kudumbashree. The fair will be open from 10 am to 10 pm, and the entry is free.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the week-long Onam celebrations being organized by the Tourism Department at Nishagandhi Auditorium on September 10. The cultural extravaganza, featuring over 5000 artists, will showcase the best of Kerala’s classical, folk and modern art and performing traditions in the state capital and multiple venues across the state.
