PANAJI:
The weekend witnessed four rescues along the coast. While Colva in south Goa witnessed one rescue, Vagator and Arambol in north Goa witnessed three rescues. Of the four rescued, two were male and two were female which included a 12 year old British girl.
At around 17.30pm at Vagator beach the lifeguard on duty Gautam Naik spotted a lone male tourist venture close to the waterline along the beach. Lifeguard Gautam cautioned the tourist to stay away from the waterline as the sea was rough and proceeded to patrol the beach stretch. On his return he spotted the same male deep in the waters. Gautam related a call for a back up and an ambulance and rushed to the male’s aid. He swam to the victim and securing him to the rescue board brought him back to shore. As the male victim seemed breathless he was placed in the recovery position and later handed over to the ambulance once it arrived for further medical intervention.
Earlier in the day, a 12 year old girl, a foreign national, was rescued by lifeguard Manoj Parab using a surfboard, while a 35 year old lady was rescued by lifeguard Sakharam Bandekar. Both incidents took place at Arambol beach at around 18.00 hrs.
