KOCHI:
In these very challenging times, access to food and a steady supply of essential items can be a struggle for the underprivileged. The old and sick have even more reason to worry, especially if there’s no support system to take care of their basic needs. Keeping these concerns in mind, several welfare institutions are doing their bit to uphold the spirit of humanity during these trying times by helping those who cannot help themselves.
One such organization is the Muppathadam unit of Thanal Pain & Palliative Care, a welfare institution with 23 units in Ernakulam alone and several more across Kerala, which has distributed 70 Ramadan food kits containing essential items to underprivileged families in the region. The food kits are generous and can accommodate the dietary needs of a family of four for an entire month.
The Muppathadam unit, which provides services such as volunteering, home care, nursing, health check-up and rehabilitation, has been undertaking the food donation drive for the past several years with the support of the Adeeb & Shafeena Foundation, a Kochi based NGO that supports causes related to geriatric care, girls’ education, healthcare, and women empowerment. The Foundation has also sponsored a vehicle to transport poor patients to and fro the Muppathadam centre.
Thanal’s food drive this year is all about spreading love and happiness in the sacred month of Ramadan, and the members of the organization hope that their efforts are able to bring happiness and relief to the lives of the families supported.
