Tournament favourite Tejas Shevde won the finals of the Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias Open 2017 in a thrilling match against Rachith Aiyappa. The popular Ladies Singles category saw Simran Khan take on Soumya Sukhthankar in the finals. Both women played a great match as Simran overpowered Saumya to win (6-1, 7-5). With the title to her name for the second consecutive year Simran now looks forward to the next tournaments in 2017. “It feels good ,there is nothing in comparison to winning the tournament for the second year in a row, with this title I’m aiming for nationals and looking forward to winning many more tournaments this year,” said Simran Khan.
In the Men’s Doubles category the pairing of Pritish Kumar and Raju Kundaikar won, comfortably defeating Bulu Godinho and Tejas Shevde (6-4, 3-6, 10-5). In the Veteran Doubles category, Bulu Godinho and Lucio Fernandes took down Kevin Rebelo and David Mendonsa in a fiercely fought match (4-1, 4-3). Bulu Godinho won in the Veteran Singles category against Noel Noronha (6-1, 6-0). In the Mixed Doubles category, Tejas Shevde and Melany Chowgule took down Bulu Godinho and Charmaine Godinho with a score of (6-3, 6-4) to attain the title.

andes triumphant over Yash Chauhan winning (4-1, 4-0) while over in the Girls U-16 category Soumya Sukhthankar won against Ibtisam Shaikh to claim the Clube Tennis de Gasper Dias Open 2017 trophy. The U-12 category of Boys and Girls put up a splendid performance in the tournament and are future stars in their own right. In the U- 12 Boys Dattaraj Naik won the finals defeating Nehal Shaikh (4-0, 3-4, 4-3) while in the U- 12 Girls category Simran Bundela defeated Jaya Bhatia (4-2, 4-1) to win the finals.
Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias President Yogesh Nadkarni and Secteray Rajesh Khaunte along with GSTA President Nathan Chowgule and Arjun Gadre, MD, Gadre Premium Seafood, gave away the trophies to the winners at the award ceremony held immediately after the finals.
Speaking at the closing ceremony President of Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias, Yogesh Nadkarni said, “On behalf of the Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias, it is exciting to see so much talent in Goa. This year we got 133 entires and I would like to request each participant to participate each year as it is going to be a yearly tournament. Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias Open 2017 commenced with a total of 133 entries coming in across 10 categories. The tournament was organized by Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias, Goa’s first tennis club in partnership with Goa State Tennis Association (GSTA) and Gadre Premium Seafood. Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias Open 2017 will be an annual fixture on the state’s tennis calendar.
Over the past 80 years under the leadership of various individuals, the club has innovated and improved keeping in the mind the requirement of its members. The club offers facilities for playing badminton, squash, table tennis, billiards and tennis within its premises.
