  • Tata Chemicals Takes the Top Spot for Sustainability and CSR

By NE Reporter on November 20, 2019

    MUMBAI:
Tata Chemicals Ltd. has been ranked as the number one company for Sustainability & CSR practice in Responsible Business Ranking 2019, a study conducted by Futurescape.

This year’s study examines the role of the SDGs in the Indian context and highlights top emerging themes like waste, water, renewable energy and data privacy. The study follows the environment, social and governance (ESG) framework to examine corporate performance. Besides reviewing the spending patterns on CSR, the study also combines performance and spending into the responsibility matrix of the companies. This is the third year in a row that Tata Chemicals has topped the all India ranking.

Alka Talwar, Chief of CSR and Sustainability at Tata Chemicals, said, “We are pleased to learn that our consistent effort towards sustainable development and community initiatives has been recognized invariably. As a responsible company, care for the environment and community has always been at the core of our values and we have always ensured that it remains our top most priority. We have always strived to adopt practices that align to the environment, social and governance parameters and such recognition motivates us do more for the communities and society we operate in. As a science-led organisation, we will continue to serve the society through science & innovation and be a leader in corporate sustainability, focusing on all three elements of ‘people, planet and profits’.”

The ‘Responsible Business Ranking’ study is an annual practice undertaken by Futurescape. This is an analytical examination of Indian sustainability reports, annual reports and business responsibility reports. It covers industries as diverse as automobiles, banks, FMCG, infrastructure, information technology, metals and mining, oil, power, steel, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications and others. The study in its sixth year showcases the successful journey of Corporate India towards responsible growth. While the study examines the ESG performance of companies, the research also indicates that companies are gradually incorporating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into their responsible business actions. Out the 218 companies studied, 60 companies have mapped their responsible business actions to SDGs. Nine of the top 10 companies mapped their goals to SDG.
