On the occasion of Sewa Diwas, Manoj Sinha, Minister of State for Communication (Independent charge) and Minister of State for Railways participated in Shramdaan at Chennai Central Railway station.
The Shramdaan included painting of state bus stand shelter, cleaning of circulating area (taxi bay), plantation of tree saplings at garden in circulating area, interaction with Scouts & Guides, participating in Cleanliness Drive and participating in Mechanised cleaning. Vashishta Johri, General Manager, Southern Railway, P.K. Mishra, Addl. General Manager, Southern Railway, Naveen Gulati, Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai Division, Principal Heads of Departments, railway officers and staff also participated. Scouts& Guides volunteers spread the message of cleanliness through placards around the station.
After completion of Shramdaan, the Minister addressed the media. He said that the Prime Minister has named the nation-wide sanitation campaign from 15thSeptember to 2nd October 2017 as“Swachhta Hi Seva”. This is being coordinated by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, the convening Ministry for the Swachh Bharat Mission. The objective of the campaign is to mobilise people and reinforce the “Jan Aandolan” for sanitation to contribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of a Clean India.
Indian Railways proudly join the mission with intensive cleanliness activities all over railway premises. The Minister appreciated the initiatives of Southern Railway in Cleanliness Mission. He said the involvement of volunteers, staff, NGOs, Scouts & Guides and general public in joining hands with Railways for spreading the message of Swachhta is also commendable. He appealed to the people to spread the message of “Swachchcta Hi Sewa“ through continued support and involvement in maintaining Railway premises and trains clean, which will contribute in a great way for Nation’s cleanliness.
Similar programmes are being organised all over Indian Railways during the Swachhta Hi Seva scheduled from 15th September to 2nd October 2017. Jingles highlighting the importance of Cleanliness are being played through public address system in railway stations seeking public support in using dustbins, handling bio-toilet carefully and restraining from using toilets at stations.
