New Delhi: The Supreme Court has lifted the ban on diesel vehicles with engines larger than 2,000 cc in the Delhi NCR region with a clause that 1% green cess should be paid to the Delhi Pollution Control Board.
This is glad news for Mercedes-Benz, Tata Motors, Ford, Chevrolet and Toyota whose production plans in India faced uncertainty following the ban. The ban on 2,000 cc + diesel vehicles was imposed by the Supreme Court in 2015.
Car manufacturers should pay the 1% green cess before the vehicle can be registered and hence the payment will be made on the ex-showroom prices. Vehicles not paying the cess will not be registered by the transport authority.
