Kozhikode’s football team Calicut FC, for the recently launched Super League Kerala (SLK), will reveal its team jerseys at a gala function here on Saturday.
The 150-minute launch function, to be held at the Hilite Mall from 5.30 pm onwards, will comprise cultural events, music band, lucky dips, digital projections and interactive contests having attractive prizes for the winners.
All the three jerseys – for the home matches, away matches and practice matches – are to be revealed at the function, which will be the curtain raiser to the mega team launch of Calicut FC at the Calicut beach on August 24.
The head coach of Calicut FC, internationally renowned Ian Andrew Gillan, and some of the key members of the team will attend the function. The event is open to the general public and there is no entry fee.
VK Mathews, owner of Calicut FC, said, “The fan following for football in Kerala is one of the highest in the country and Kozhikode is the epicenter of football frenzy. Calicut FC is the team representing the people of this vibrant city. The newly designed player jerseys would be revealed to the football-loving people of Kozhikode for the first time. We welcome the fans of football and the general public, young and the elderly, of Kozhikode to come and be a part of this enjoyable evening.”

The SLK will kick off on September 7 with the inaugural function at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Kochi. Six teams, representing Kozhikode, Kannur, Malappuram, Thrissur, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram, will slug it out for the coveted trophy that carries a prize money of Rs 1.50 crore.
There will be 30 matches at the league stage and four teams qualify for the playoffs. Calicut FC will have a total strength of 25 players, including six overseas players, nine national players and the rest from Kerala. The team’s home ground is Kozhikode Corporation Stadium where they will play five home matches. The away matches will be played in the cities of the other teams.
