The Swachhta Pakhwada (Suchitva Pakshacharanam) in Cochin Port Trust is progressing vigorously with the active participation of employees of seven departments of the Port and the Port fraternity comprising the trade and residents of Willingdon Island. During the first 5 days of the Swachhta Pakhwada the following roads/areas were cleaned up.
The road in front of Container lorry Parking Yard near BOT Bridge and C Bunk Road (15th Cross
Cleaning activities were carried out by employees of Medical, Marine, Finance and General Administration Departments in their office premises.
Cleaning activities were carried out at Container Freight Station Shed and the Q7 Ramp area in front of over flow shed No.9, Ernakulam Wharf by Traffic Department.
Employees of Mechanical Engineering Department carried out cleaning activities in electricity substations and auto section at and Ernakulam Wharf.
Cleaning activities of different departments were reviewed on daily basis by A.V. Ramana, Chairman (i/c). Gowri S Nair, Nodal Officer for Swachh Bharat activities (Secretary, Cochin Port Trust) carried out awareness programmes in different parts of the Port area nd a trilingual leaflet highlighting the importance of proper disposal of waste for ensuring Swachh Cochin Port and Swachh Bharat was distributed. Awareness programmes were also conducted among the employees by heads of department.
Major cleanliness drive is being carried out in the following public places in Willingdon Island which will be completed by 31 st March, 2017.
Refurbishment of the Shopping Complex area nearby roads at South End.
Old Cochin Radio compound- being cleaned up and converted as a parking cum public convenience area.
