KOCHI:
Cochin Port Trust has taken up development of water side walkway on one side of the National Highway between BOT Bridge and Kannangat Bridge on Willingdon Island with the assistance of Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India.
However, it has been observed that dumping of house hold waste and septage waste is rampant on the other side of the road. Though the road sides are coming under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), being a matter of public health and social responsibility Cochin Port Trust in co-ordination with Cochin Corporation has taken a massive waste removal programme during the last week from the sides of the above mentioned National Highway.
Six truck loads of waste has been removed from the area. Surveillance cameras are being installed in Cochin Port Trust on the important locations to catch hold of the people violating the instructions. Three Surveillance teams of Harbour Police, CISF and Cochin Port Trust will inspect the area in the coming days to ensure that unauthorized throwing of waste is not continued in the area.
