KOCHI:
Every year, thousands of refugees are forced to flee their homes and set out on a difficult and dangerous journey to safety and survival. 2 Billion Kilometers is the approximate distance refugees cover worldwide each year to reach the nearest point of safety.
Energetic and passionate AFI youth change makers Ahammed Hashir aged 19 years and Dileesh aged 21 years are travelling 4000 Kms from Kanyakumari to Ladakh, walking for almost 180 days. The campaign on solidarity to Refugees was flagged off from Queens’s way at 10 am. The flag off ceremony was conducted by Ariel Foundation International, Director South Asia, Kamal Muhamed along with Libas Sadhiq, Advisory Board Member AFI, in the presence of Various Dignitaries including Denny Thomas Author of Nangal Abhyarthikal (We Refugees), ACT 4 Hunger & Ammucare Head Kerala, Devdas, and Kartika.
As Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) part which is focusing on “No More Displacement, No more war, No more hunger” and in parallel covers Environmental Protection factors by planting trees during stopover hours. The total period of this walk shall be 6 months Journey, initiated from Kerala Border on 28th March.
This journey is supported by Ariel Foundation International ‘ACT 4 HUNGER, Mohanji Foundation, Ammucare Charitable Trust, Four AM club foundation, World Consciousness Alliances, Altruistic Association of India.
Cake cutting ceremony was jointly done by AFI & ACT 4 Hunger Volunteers and *B & BLR Club with 8 bikes ridden by Youth Ladies which was also accompanied by the walking youths that attracted the public viewers and became the talk of the town.
