MALLAPURAM:
Giving a further thrust to the sporting culture of the area, Minister for Industries, Sports and Youth Affairs, E P Jayarajan, launched the construction work of the stadium complex at Tanur in the district on Saturday.
Planned as part of the Government’s policy of developing infrastructure across the state to impart momentum to the sporting aspirations at the grass roots, the stadium with world class facilities is coming up at the Government Higher Secondary School grounds at Kattilangadi, Tanur, Malappuram district.
V Abdul Rahman MLA presided over the function. Sanjayan Kumar, Director, Sports and Youth Affairs, presented the report on the project. Tanur Municipal Chairperson C K Subaida and elected representatives from the area were present.
Eminent footballer I M Vijayan and former captain of Kerala football team Usman were chief guests at the function. The Tanur stadium complex, proposed in the 2016-17 revised budget, will come up at the 4.69 acre land of GHSS, Kattilangadi. The project has got administrative sanction for Rs 19.14 crore and the KIIFB (Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board) nod for Rs 10.07 crore.
The facility will have a football ground of global standard, volleyball court, fitness centre, jumping pit, swimming pool, synthetic track and net court facility for cricket practice. The project will be completed in a year.
